"It's a String Thing" #300 Tiles

Happy 300th "It's a String Thing" to all  "It's a String Thingers"* far and wide!

It is a pleasure to present the tiles for this grand celebration.  We used a string inspired by the numeral 300 along with my new Ada and tangles from IAST #100 and #200.

Each tile is a treasure and the loving sentiments that accompanied them are gifts in themselves.  Thank you all.

Let's take a look ~

The first tile arrived from Gale Sherman, CZT (Tucson, Arizona) ~
I'm so sorry I don't have longer to work on this special 300th IAST tile. It is simple, but heartfelt. I got the email instructions today and am packing to leave for a couple week road trip visiting family and friends here and there. It will be great fun visiting AND looking forward to seeing all the great tiles tanglers around the world will produce. THANK YOU so much for keeping this endeavor going. I can hardly imagine how much time, energy and effort you spend challenging and encouraging us. You are such a dear!
Thank you, Gale.  Have a wonderful trip!

I certainly enjoyed this challenge with your new tangle Ada. So much fun.
Thanks Adèle!
Thank you, Marjan.  The pleasure is mine to have you join in!

Take care, stay healthy and keep us challenged.

Congratulations on your 300th anniversary! Surely not only I do admire your enthusiasm, your dedication and your many good ideas that delight us Tangle enthusiasts every week and challenge to many interesting contributions. I'm looking forward to the next 300!
My tile one can find on my blog under the link...
Best wishes to you and your big family - it was certainly not only a big challenge to make a picture of all your seven, it also was a big task for you to bring up seven children, who have become such pleasant and beautiful young adults!
Greetings from Germany
Thank you, Margarete.
I admire your enthusiasm and boundless energy for tangling, too.
Tangled Tidbits -
*overlapping doubled strings brimming with tangles

 From Ingrid (The Netherlands) ~
Congratulations with the 300th IAST Challenge. Wow, what a milestone.
Thank you so much for all you did week after week to tickle us to tangle.
Some zentangles flowed straight out of the pen while others were more like brain teasers. But you always keep us sharp and you are always encouraging us with your positiveness and loving words. And as far as I know you never skipped one week to provide us with a challenge. Chapeau.
I love your newest tangle ADA and liked to play with it.
My tile this week flowed straight out of the pen. It is a simple tile with not many embellishments, but I think that the suggested tangles are beautiful of their own and do not need to be embellished much.
I really wanted to participate in this challenge # 300 but I also planned a few days family visit in another part of The Netherlands this week. So I was a bit in time shortage and I am glad that I managed to make the tile.
I loved to see the picture of all your beautiful children together.
Much love and have a blessed week
Thank you, Ingrid, and safe travels to you.

From Sue Leslie, CZT (New Mexico) ~
WOW! 300 certainly calls for a celebration. Thanks Adele for inspiring so many of us tanglers to play with new strings and tangles. It has been fun, though I’ve not even come close to doing all 300. Maybe I’ll make the next 300 but I’m sure it’ll be ‘do some, miss some’ and as always will be fun. Looking forward to many more IAST’s. I’m sure the gold doesn’t show up very well in the scan, but knew there had to be gold for such a milestone! Enjoyed all 3 of these new to me tangles.

Thank you, Sue, I am happy to have you join in whenever you can.
*celebratory touches of gold
*one tangle for each string line

From Mariam G. (Port Hueneme, California) ~
Congratulations on bringing us all to IAST300! You have been so inspiring and creative - Thank You! This was much fun indeed. ( I thought my tile was finished in black and white, then thought 'this is a celebration that calls for color!' So I started in with my Tombow Dual Brush pens. Got a little out of control, but that's okay!)
Your family, by the way, is beautiful! Thank you for sharing your photos. Hope the remainder of your summer is filled with joy and peaceful beauty.
...and yours as well, thank you, Mariam.
Tangled Tidbits -
*interlocking C-perfs with the perfect little sign!

From Ragged Ray (United Kingdom) ~
What a milestone! A huge thank you to you, for your ongoing commitment and care and for bringing us all together, from far and wide, week after week with your strings and tangle selections!
I don't know what gave me the greatest pleasure - tangling a tile for your 300th challenge, knowing I've been following the challenges for almost the entire time, playing with three of your centenary tangles - or getting to know your charming new tangle. Ada is delightful - and so ripe for variation - here is another for your collection - gently rounded, doubled, then cut through in Wholly Hollibaugh style!
Here's to another 300 if you think you can cope!
Ah, Jem, you make it look so easy - and sound so easy, too - but that Ada variation is just remarkable!
Thank you for the good wishes and for your steadfast company.
Tangled Tidbits -
*delightfully detailed, doubled Ada
*woven ribbon and fine lines tie the patterns together

From JoAnne (Ontario, Canada) ~

Tangled Tidbits -
*C-perfs cheery cherries
*multiple 100 variations and vibrant color

From Susan (United Kingdom) ~
Congratulations on reaching 300! Love the new tangle ADA, and all the things you can do with it. I like the rounded angle one from Susie in Thailand that looks like Sydney Opera House.
What a great photo of your family – they all look so alike and like you!
Many, many thanks for all you do to keep this community going.
Many thanks, Susan.
Tangled Tidbits -
*rounded and doubled Ada
*300 used as a tangle - how fun!

From Lynn F. (from a rainy Florida) ~
Congratulations Adele on your 300th challenge.
For the short amount of time I’ve participated I can truly say how much joy these have added to my life.
Thank you and thanks to all the other Tanglers who participate from around the world.
Here’s my tile for this celebratory challenge. I added a little crescent moon, tipple, and keeko to the mix.
Thank you, Lynn - so happy you found us!
Tangled Tidbits -
*300 repeats to fill in the string spaces with a touch of gold
*wonderful waves of 100 variations

From Ria Matheussen, CZT (Belgium) ~
I'm glad to have the opportunity of joining your challenge number 300. I
have learned so much by following those challenges. As I wrote before,
they are sometimes easy, sometimes difficult but always interesting.
I 've made a few sketches with the given string but I was not satisfied
about the result. That is why I chose for something else but I used only
your tangles with addition of the lovely Mel Mel, which is one of my
favorite tangles.
I love to draw in the round and hope you will like this zendala.
Thank you so much Adele for challenging us every week again and
especially for the wonderful presentation of our tiles.
I wish you and your beautiful family lots of happy moments and
especially all of you a good health!
I'm grateful to be a member of the I.A.S.T. tanglefamily.
Warm regards from Belgium
Thank you, Ria, and the same good wishes to you and your family, too.
Tangled Tidbits -
*brilliant orbiting tangles - love the addition of Mel Mel
*touches of highlights, white spaces, dots and a 300!

From Amy Lilien-Harper, CZT (Connecticut) ~
It’s good to be back! Thanks for the extra week. I found the string challenging to use with these tangles, which all seemed to want to go into straight lines. Finally, I used each number for one of the three tangles, and then tied it all together with Tripoli, which seemed appropriate given all of the threes here. I particularly enjoyed both Ada and 100. I hope you like it!
Yes, very much!
Tangled Tidbits -
*lovely evenness of line and spacing
*pretty contrast with light and dark perfs

From Cheryl (Missouri) ~
Thanks, as always, Adele for keeping us 'tangling.
Thank you for tangling along, Cheryl.
Tangled Tidbits -
*100 flows smoothly into C-perfs
*weighted lines, a bit of blue, wonderful details

From Gill Green (Israel) ~
What a beautiful family! Would love to see a photo of the extended clan one day.
Congratulations on the 300th IAST, it’s a wonderful achievement and so happy to be a small part of it.
I didn’t submit last time as I wasn’t happy with the result, but after reading the other entries I won’t be doing that anymore.
I enjoyed using all these tangles, and looking forward to taking part in the next 300.
Thank you, Gill.  Your work is wonderful - do send it in!
Tangled Tidbits -
*very dimensional brown, shaded, and highlighted Ada
*perfs and Betweed for a second Ada variation

From VenaC (Whitby, Ontario, Canada) ~
Congratulations on achieving this milestone. It represents a lot of work on your part and it is well and truly appreciated by all your challenge participants. Thank you for hours and hours of fun. I like your new "Ada" pattern. As you showed in your last post, there can be many variations.
I love that you said "fun" because it really is.  Thank you, Vena.
Tangled Tidbits -
*brightly colored details
*Ada corner with 100, perfs, and rays

From Hilary (Chicago) ~
Good morning and congratulations!
I haven’t been tangling for weeks — other artwork is keeping me busy— but I just couldn’t miss the opportunity to celebrate your great achievement. It really is amazing how long you’ve been teaching and inspiring a worldwide community!
I used your 300 string and Henrike Bratz's variation of Ada. Then instead of the 100 pattern, I changed it to 300. It was fun and soothing to do.
Once again congratulations and best wishes for 300 more!

Thank you for pausing your other work to join in, we would have missed you, for sure!
Tangled Tidbits -
*300 as a tangle - great fun!
*rows and rows of wonderfully rounded Ada details

From Sra (India) and here on her blog ~
Congratulations on the 300th edition of IAST! Thanks for coming up with the event and hosting it and commenting on the tiles. Here's a link to my post on IAST 300. The picture of the tile is attached.
I look forward to IAST every week, even when I know I won't be able to participate, or haven't. Do keep it running for as long as you can!
Thank you, Sra.  I appreciate all of your encouraging words over the years.
Tangled Tidbits -
*large orbs of 100 shine with highlights and shading, too
*C-perfs filled string line

From Sue Agnew (Tucson, Arizona - currently on vacation) ~
I'm doing this with one finger on my phone so hopefully will be less wordy!
Congratulations on 300 — that's an almost six-year accomplishment!
The (fun) challenge this week was how to use three border tangles. So I decided to make One Hundred into a grid. Not sure it fades into the background as much as I'd hoped. The "printed c" version of C-Perf reminded me of one of my favorite tangles, Inapod, so I made c's into peas. Then made myself go out of my comfort zone a little to try a cursive variation. Ada was fun. I kept it plain because I was playing with "coiling" it. I also tried a "zigzag fold" version but it took more concentration than I was able to muster.
Thank you so much for years of fun and friendship!
Fun, friendship, and lots of tangling - thank you, Sue!
Tangled Tidbits -
*tangles rise over 100 grid
*a light and airy look, with just enough dark spaces and weighted line to ground the tangles

From Kathy (British Columbia, Canada) ~
Congratulations Adele! 300 strings is a lot of work...a huge commitment and I thank you. I look forward each week to seeing the wonderful ideas and inspiration that other amazing tanglers send in. And of course I can hardly wait to see the new string and tangles to try. "Ada" is a wonderful tangle...so many possibilities! Also a name I will remember as my granddaughter is also Aida ( just a different spelling) and she loves to zentangle with me!
Many thanks, Kathy.  I am so happy to know that we share a granddaughter name.
Tangled Tidbits -
*beautiful, alternating rows of arched and straight lined Ada
*horizontal C-perfs beside vertical 100

From Karen Aicken (Alberta, Canada) ~
How exciting that you were able to visit with all of your children at the same time. Such happy memories! Also enjoyed your newest tangle Ada. How lovely that you can have another tangle named after a sweet grandchild.
Here is my participation for the amazing IAST 300. What a huge milestone! Thank you for all you do
I traced a Zentangle tile into my sketchbook and added a touch of gold.
Thank you so much, Karen.

I was going to write Thank You 300x but… :)
Loved the picture of your family. What a gorgeous group. The reunion must have been so much fun and so hard to see end. You are truly blessed.
Here’s to many more weeks of IAST. Sending much love.
You are so kind, thank you, Jody.

Congratulations on your move, Ginger - many blessing to you in your new home.
Tangled Tidbits -
*doubled and aura-ed string lines with an N'zeppel background
*long lined Ada flows into lines and rows of 100 and C-perfs

From Sharon Fite (California) ~
300 challenges!! That's amazing, Adele! I haven't been able to contribute recently, but I didn't want to miss this celebration. Thank you, Adele, for all you do for this community! (And, yes, I too have sketched out a pattern or two at church!)
Whew!  I am glad to know I am not the only one, thank you, Sharon :)
Tangled Tidbits -
*striking combination of tangles, browns, black, sparkle...

From Antony Visconti (Milan, Italy) ~
Congratulations on this remarkable achievement of #300. I've only been participating in the blog for the last few months but it has become my point of reference in Zentangle experience and a highlight in my week. Thank you for this lovely community and here's to many more IAST's.
Thank you, Antony, so very happy to have you here.
Tangled Tidbits -

From Jane Rhae, CZT (Indiana) ~
Three hundred prompts and strings, thousands of tangles and tiles, hundreds of artists, countless amounts of effort, encouragement, creativity and fun—-what a wonderful milestone to celebrate! You, Adele, have been our guide, our mentor, our inspiration and the one who has made possible this amazing way for us to share and grow.
Sending you sincere gratitude for what you do every week to fill our hearts with joy and keep our microns moving! Marvelous new tangling adventures await us in the next 100!
Thank you for that summary of IAST and for the kudos, too.  I appreciate you!
Tangled Tidbits -
*one lovely tangle variation for each string section
*Ada filled background spaces

Lastly, this is my tile.  I tangled this in three different sessions and now I see that is very apparent.  My favorite is the area around the 3 with rounded corners everywhere.  It was the last section that I tangled, or I would have drawn the entire tile this way.  I added a few stray black perfs in an attempt to tie it all together.

My heartfelt, endless gratitude to each and every
"It's a String Thinger".

Week after week, YOU make this fun, eventful, inspiring, compelling.

Cheers our next milestone!

  1. Thank you for the round-up, Adele! I wanted to add that I enjoy seeing the pictures of your family and other activities but don't always comment on them due to my blog-reading patterns - it's generous of you to share all that with us.
