"It's a String Thing" #296 Tiles

This week was just plain fun for the Fourth of July as we tangled with one new and one not-so-new pattern - both a joy to draw.

Let's take a look ~

The first tile arrived from Baafke (The Netherlands) ~
I think Tweak is a surprising tangle-pattern.
Different every time you draw it.
That's the nice thing about zentangle

Tangled Tidbits -
*grey marker string lines and a touch of sparkle
*Ahh tipped Tweak lines

From Gale Sherman, CZT (Tucson, Arizona) ~
This tile (lightly marbled ages ago) was unearthed in a tin I carry when traveling. Tweak was new to me and I tweaked it a bit more by adding random triangles. Ahh and #therefore are above in golden splendor. Best to all and, again, Adele THANK YOU for starting and keeping IAST going, especially thru jet lag. Your trip sounds very fulfilling and wonderful.
Tangled Tidbits -
*glowing golden Ahh
*just a touch of shading to the overlaps
Thank you, Gale, your words captured our trip.

From Jane (Surrey, United Kingdom) ~
Has been great reading about your recent trip, I look forward to learning more of your travels. Please find my tile for this week’s challenge. I couldn’t resist adding tweak to the whole string and just a few aah in white gellyroll. I like these grey tiles too.
Tangled Tidbits -
*softness abounds in shading, rounding, and highlights
*Ahh overlaps and peaks from under

From Susan (United Kingdom) ~
Tweak was a very satisfying tangle. Interesting what a difference it made just leaving one side without an aura.
Tangled Tidbits -
*lovely inner shapes of Tweak
*Ahh filled and tipped Tweak

From Hilary (Chicago) ~
It’s been quite some time since I sent you anything, so I’m glad to have finished this before the deadline.
I’ve been doing a lot of gel plate printing lately. For this one, I printed over some old tangles, then I added a bit of one of this week’s patterns on top of that.
Tangled Tidbits -
*beautiful coloring and layering
*Tweak has a rounded look accented by deep shading

From Angie Gittles (Maryland) ~
Thank you for another fun challenge.

Tangled Tidbits -
*touches of Ahh fill Tweak
*white spaces compliment Tweak dark centers

From Shirley Wohlsen (Queensland, Australia) ~
Lovely to hear about your wonderful trip to Israel and the fantastic time you had with your brother and his wife.
Also to meet up with Gill Green was just the icing on the cake, I loved Gill’s shop, lots of goodies in there.
Attached is my tile for ‘It’s A String Thing #296’ Challenge.
Tangled Tidbits -
*softest shading adds depth
*festive multi-lined Ahh
Meeting Gill was definitely "icing on the cake" and I dare say all of us would get happily lost in their beautiful shop.

From Moblue (Germany) ~
See enclosed my contribution for this week. The tile had enough space so I took Tweak as reticula for Aah and also some Star Map and Cracked. Finally I tried some Nzepple in the last corner. So much fun!
Belated happy 4ths of July and happy tangling from
Moblue, Bremen, Germany
Tangled Tidbits -
*sparkly Ahh
*wonderful mix of tangles to compliment Tweak

From VenaC (Whitby, Ontario, Canada) ~
Sounds as if you had a really good time visiting Israel. Lots of interesting places to visit. Also nice to be able to meet up with one of your IAST contributors. This was a relaxing tangle. My lines ended up being a bit more wobbly than I like. I added a couple of touches of red, white, and blue for the 4th of July. Hope you had a nice celebration.
Tangled Tidbits -
*wonderful angles accented with shading
*Ahh lines reach to fill string spaces
Cheers to the red, white, and blue!

From Susie (St. Louis, Missouri) ~

Tangled Tidbits -
*wonderfully rounded Tweak and touches of highlight
*multiple Ahh fill string spaces

From Laurel Davis, CZT #28 (New York) ~
Thanks for another great challenge, Adele! I fell in love with Tweak when I first saw it and who doesn’t love to draw Ahhh! (Especially with a white Gelly Roll?) This past winter in St. Augustine, a friend introduced me to a lovely lady named Ellen Albert from Key Biscayne, FL who also just returned from a trip to Israel. She posted lots of pictures on FB while she was there, so I can understand what an amazing experience it must have been for you!
Tangled Tidbits -
*detailed border and fills for Tweak
*explosive Ahh
Thank you, Laurel, I will have to post some more photos when I get them all sorted out.

From Gabi (Germany) ~
What a wonderful trip to Israel you had. Sure you got lots of inspiration, met nice people and saw very interesting places!
I’m also for vacation, spending the time at home and so I had some more time to do a tile and I’m sure this time it’s not the last one you get.
Was puzzled when I saw the string but it’s great for this pattern. Didn’t know Tweak up to now and I think it’s going to be one of my favourite patterns.
Tangled Tidbits -
*weighted lines
*layered Ahh really shines
Thank you for your spot on description of our trip :)

From Margarete Gilge (Germany) and here on her blog ~
this time you have chosen an unusual pattern combination. As a background, I have used a watercolor from my blue-white-red series that fits quite well with your string.Unfortunately, the result is a bit dark. It was a very interesting challenge again. You can also see my result on my blog under the link: .
Thank you for your good ideas and your commitment.
Best wishes from Germany
Tangled Tidbits -
*happy Ahh variations
*varied inner shapes of Tweak
I can say the same back to you, Margarete.  Thank you!

From Ria Matheussen, CZT (Belgium) ~
Tweak is a wonderful, versatile tangle, I'm glad you chose this one for
the challenge of the week and AHH always cheer up the result.
As you can see I have used besides my pencil and pen a little bit of
blue colours and a white gellypen.
I enjoyed this challenge and thank you very much for your inspiring
posts, I like to join as much as possible!
Wish you all the best and send you warm regards from Belgium
Tangled Tidbits -
*light Tweak centers
*sparkling Ahh and a lovely shade of blue

From Talia Maynard (London, United Kingdom) ~
Hope you're having a wonderful July 4th weekend.
Here's my tile for this week's challenge. I did it super quickly but am quite pleased with how it turned out.
Tangled Tidbits -
*auras and dark spaces around Ahh make it bloom
*soft shading

From Gill Green (Israel) ~
Here's my 4th July tile. Friends in the US are celebrating the birth of their grandson born on the 4th so that's been exciting for us too. Looking forward to seeing how everyone has managed to merge these very different tangles! Greetings from hot and humid Tel Aviv.
Tangled Tidbits -
*large Ahh with aura floats above Tweak
*festive red, white, and blue sections
Cheers to new life, new parents, and to new grandparents, too!

From Lynn F. (Florida) ~
What a wonderful story about your trip and getting to meet Gill.
As we have just celebrated our Independence Day, I decided to use the patterns in a way that would look like the 🇺🇸.
I used Ahh for the stars and Tweak for the stripes. My husband didn’t see the flag when he looked at it but he still thought it was great.
Thanks for another fun challenge.
Tangled Tidbits -
*patriotic stars and stripes in Ahh and Tweak
*very pretty Ahh variations
Thank you, Lynn :)

From Sue Leslie (New Mexico) ~
To all the United States Tanglers Happy 4th of July. And for the rest of the world, have a Happy Day!. Zentangle brings us all together as friends and family and that is always a good day! I kept thinking of fireworks as my AHH’s exploded behind the Tweak areas. What fun and this started a new journal of IAST’s for me. Filled the last one then missed a couple of weeks, but as I say, miss some, do some, but always fun. Thanks Adele and glad you had some awesome family and travel time.
Tangled Tidbits -
*Ahh filled Tweak
*wonderful shading
Thank you, Sue, it is always a good day when tangling is involved!

From Lynn G. (Florida) ~
Thank you, Adele, for another challenge with all you have going on. You are amazing.
...as are your steady contributions, thank you, Lynn.
Tangled Tidbits -
*waves of Tweak with sparkled center details
*softly shaded bursts of Ahh

From Amy L, CZT (Connecticut) ~
I was very busy this week and the time I found to tangle was in the car in the way to and from Boston, so my lines are shakier than usual. However despite that, and that I found tweak a bit challenging, once I brought it all together with mooka, I decided that the result was shareable. So here it is. Happy fourth, everyone! And welcome back from Israel, Adele. It sounds like your trip was just as amazing as ours was last year!
Tangled Tidbits -
*Mooka is a fabulous addition
*Ahh and Mooka share rounded shading
I am so very happy to know you were there, too.

From Allison (California) ~
Oh, so fun when I get in the zen of tangling. Here’s my offering for #296. One element of this flowed into the next. Thank you for the prompt.

Tangled Tidbits -
*sunbursts of Ahh
*string lines turn to dot and connect to Ahh
Your fun is contagious!

From Kathy Millard and Aida Millard (Prince George, British Columbia, Canada) ~
Again really enjoyed the two patterns that were both new to me. My 11 year old granddaughter, Aida has been here visiting and also loves to zentangle. She tried the tangles as well so I have sent both our tangles along. Thank you so much for keeping me motivated!

Tangled Tidbits -
*awesome Ahh reflects Tweak lines
*shaded corners and dots of red
How fun to tangle with your granddaughter!

*beautiful borders of Tweak
*Ahh filled center and dots shared by both tangles
Well done, Aida!

From Sue Agnew (Tucson, Arizona) ~
What a treat and privilege to go to the Holy Land! That must have been so moving and inspiring (kind of gives me chills thinking about it)! Judging from the experience of the folks from my church who went on pilgrimage in May, I'm guessing you got a tattoo in Jerusalem! Apparently there’s a place right on the Via Dolorosa that has been in existence since 1300, called Razzook’s, and the “thing” is to get a Jerusalem Cross tattoo with the year, and then each time you go back you add another year to the tattoo. (I’m just teasing; I’ve never been at all inclined to get a tattoo but the Jerusalem tattoo would be the only one I would ever even consider.)

This tile was a lot of fun. When I saw Tweak I immediately thought of Flukes, which is one of my favorites because just a little shading adds so much layering. Then when I started playing with it the random string reminded me of Margaret Bremner’s Cockles ’n’ Mussels, and the fact that Cockles ’n’ Mussels came about from her drawing N’Zeppel using a random string rather than a grid. So in some of the spaces I put N’Zeppel and then put Ahhhhh inside. I’m not sure what possessed me to do tiny cross-hatching instead of just coloring the spaces black.

Thanks for your inspiring stories!
Tangled Tidbits -
Fortunately, our tour guide left that detail out :)  but yes, it was a privilege to be there.
*Ahh in N'zeppel bubbles - how fun!
*detailed crosshatching adds just right contrast

From Sra (India) ~
Here's my entry for the week. It's early morning in India and this is the first time I've tangled a tile so early!
One of those tiles where I didn't think much and even like the outcome.
Have a happy week ahead!
Tangled Tidbits -
Not thinking too much and liking the outcome - that's a great combination for tangling!
*white on black and black on white Ahh
*interesting angles created with Tweak

From Cheryl (Missouri) ~
This was a fun tangle, but very involved. It would have helped to have read the complete blog and pattern details before starting! Some pictures are worth MORE than thousands words
Tangled Tidbits -
*pretty Ahh variations
*rounded and weighted corners of Tweak
Some times directions are overrated :)

From Lisette, CZT #32 (Switzerland) ~
I’m not sure if I’m too late with my tile…
Tweak is a pattern I wouldn’t have chosen by myself. I’m thankful that you proposed it. It’s really worth playing with Tweak.
Best wishes and hugs
Tangled Tidbits -
*long lines and rounded Tweak corners with a touch of shading
*white and black Ahh - pretty contrasts

From JoAnne (Ontario, Canada) ~
It sounds like your summer is going well!
Tweak was new to me and fun to do!
Tangled Tidbits -
*colorful Tweak accentuates its angles and shapes
*varying sizes and colors of Ahh

From Felicity Strohfeldt (Velddrif, South Africa) ~
Thank you for an “simple” challenge for tile 296. This word “ simple”inspired me to get going again. 4th July just happens to be our wedding anniversary date. Willie and I were married 52 year on the 4th of July. Here we say married couples figuratively consume one bag of salt every 7 year - cycle of being together, so 52 years adds up to about seven and a half bags of salt so far! Still going strong through thick and thin.

Thank you for the challenge and for Tweak and Ahhh that worked so well together. Stars and Stripes !
Best to all.
CONGRATULATIONS to you and your groom of 52 years!  May you enjoy many more years - and salt - together! 💑
Tangled Tidbits -
*wonderful roundness in Ahh's details
*a touch of color to compliment the black and white

Many thanks to you all for the inspiring and festive Fourth tiles.

Special thanks to the creative minds behind the tangles we used this week ~
