"It's a String Thing" #227 Tiles

Happy Monday!  Isn't it a treat to begin each week together with an incredible show of tiles?
This week's show is particularly enchanting.  Let's take a look ~

The first tile arrived from Margarete Gilge (Germany) and here on her blog ~
this time I drew two versions of your challenge again. I enjoyed drawing Bubbles, Bales and the other patterns on a coloured background. I send you my second version, my first one you can find on my blog under the link: .
Thank you very much for this very interesting challenge. I didn’t know Bubbles yet. I didn’t draw the other patterns very often and never in this combination.
Best wishes from Germany

From Donna Matoi (Long Beach, California) ~
Here is my tile for this week's challenge. I have never tried out Jester and Bubbles, I like both of those patterns and will have to try to use them more often! My Bubbles needs some work, but, I enjoyed making this tile!
I enjoyed all of the beautiful Rumpus tiles! I loved how you used yours in a heart shape for your mother's birthday card! Happy Birthday to her! What a great family gathering of four generations!
Thank you for another great challenge and I look forward to next weeks challenge!
Have a great week!

Thank you for the challenge. I know more zentangle pattern by joining your challenge every week. And it's challenging how to interpret pattern into string you gave.

From Hilary (Chicago) ~
I hope all is well with your family, and happy belated birthday to your mom!
I used my new sepia and burgundy pens on a tinted tile for this week's challenge. I hope they show up well in the photo because it was fun using them.
Tangled Tidbits -
Thank you, Hilary.
*dark spaces make Bubbles pop
*fine lined star burst details

From Lisette (Switzerland) ~
My contribution for IAST#227. I’ve never used Bubbles before because they didn’t appeal to me. But I might change my attitude in the future… I was really intrigued by Jester which I’ve never used before either. I really appreciated this new challenge.
Hugs from Switzerland

From Jami Lawniczak (Ohio) ~

From Susan (United Kingdom) ~
I enjoyed this week’s tangles. I liked last week’s idea of shading with a pen so I had another go at that with my purple pen. It has nearly run out, but I think that sort of helps the effect.

*lovely variations of Bales and Jester
*colorful, sparkled, light and dark Bubbles

From Judy Wanner, CZT (Pennsylvania) ~
Why is it photography always shows what I “could” have done? You know, sort of like a 75 year old woman looking into a magnified mirror sans make up!
Anyway, it was fun tangling!
Please give your Mother a huge birthday hug from me. You wrote lovely, meaningful words to describe her and she wears them well.....even way back when there were only the 7 of you. Your Rompus Zendala is a beautiful gift I know she will treasure. And one has to love Mugga....bet a grandchild gave that to her! (Yes, it was Isabella :)
Hope this finds you enjoying and not working too hard. We tanglers so appreciate all you do.
As always I send my love to all.
 Tangled Tidbits -
Thank you, Judy 💗
*  touch of Bales tips Bubbles
*shading leaves pretty highlight in Bales and Jester

From Trudi (Woodview, Ontario, Canada) ~
...I'm am so happy to be vertical again and able to Tangle! If you ever see a dark circle starting to eclipse your eye go right to your eye specialist. I waited a few days as I already had an appointment scheduled and she was upset I didn't come in right away. I had two retinal tears and she sent me to Toronto that day for surgery. I was lucky they managed to repair my eye with a gas bubble and laser treatment. I had to spend the next week , 23/24 hours lying on my left side. Still very blurry in my right eye but I'm hoping it will improve in time. It's been lovely to be able to sit up and get back into Tangling.
Thank you for having this available to us.

Tangled Tidbits -
Thank you for that advice, Trudi - sending prayers for your continued healing.
*colorful layers of tangles
*inner aura repeats in Jester and Bales

In the attachment my tile # 227 for this week. I nearly forgot to send it. I hope I'm still on time. Therefore my note will be short. Thank you for this challenge, it was nice to do.

From Karen Herstowski (Atlanta, Georgia) ~
This one reminded me of a ribbon sampler. The Bubbles pattern on the V shape ribbon in the foreground is similar to a ribbon I used in a fabric layout about 25 ears ago. When you view the reverse side of that ribbon, it is a complete opposite of the colors on the front. Nice nostalgia in this piece.
Thanks goes to Suzanne - I love doing Bubbles, Cyndi for Jester, and Maria for Bales. Thanks to Adele for your ever-challenging ideas!
 Tangled Tidbits -
*glorious Bubble 'ribbon'

From Mariam G (Port Hueneme, California) ~
We just returned from a mini-vacation. I was so 'tickled' to find, while sorting out my e-mail, that I was the recipient of your 'tile with honors' last week! Thank you for the honor, and for giving us all such great inspiration. I learn so much from each and every contributor.
I hope I am not to late to submit this week's tile - only had today to play with it. I left 'Jester' out - just could not find a place for it in the end. Hope everyone had a great week!
Tangled Tidbits -

From Dolly Bolen, CZT (Morinville, Alberta, Canada) ~
I hadn’t tried Bubbles or Jester before this challenge and I enjoyed tangling both of them. I drew a tangleation of Jester with Bales inside
which was a fun way to include both tangles. Then I drew Bales with an inside aura similar to the way it was tangled in the Zentangle Project Pack 1 – Part 2. After I added colour with Derwent Watercolour Pencils and Derwent Inktense Pencils, I added Black crosses to the centre of the coloured Bales with Sakura Glaze Pen in Black, along with a number of colours in Sakura Stardust Gelly Roll Pens to add bling to the gradient of colours. Finally I added Sakura White Gelly Roll Pen 10 highlights then went over with Sakura Stardust Pen in Clear Star to add sparkle to the White highlights. I decided I would like to add grey and silver to Bubbles to balance out the stark white and black of Jester/Bales tangleation and the rainbow of colours on Bales. The white areas left on the Apprentice tile were not to my liking so I tangles a few Bales falling from the rainbow of Bales streaming across the tile. I also drew a Bubble falling from the burst of Bubbles across the tile. It is kind of my signature to have single elements of a tangle falling from the full drawn tangle, something I have developed in a lot of my tiles. I created
reflections in the adjacent colours on the sides of the tangles touching the rainbow of Bales which added an interesting touch.
I photographed my tile on a colourful piece of scrapbooking paper under a pot light, direct light which is why the sparkles showed up so
nicely in my photo.
What I love about this tile is the different contrasts, colours and movement. I didn’t have an image in mind when starting this, it just really
flowed. I can’t wait to see what other tanglers around the world come up with, that is the best part of the fun, like opening a gift, seeing what is inside! I am thankful for your challenges, that I am able to participate. This is a fairly new experience for me, joining in on challenges such as your IAST. I am grateful for all your hard work you put into doing this for all of us, every week! Thank you so much and God Bless!
Tangled Tidbits -

Sending very happy birthday wishes to your mum!! Such a large family ... I'm sure the celebrations will last quite a while!!
The tiles from last week were all so beautiful ... I'm glad you posted the two tiles that almost got away ... they were like icing on the cake ... or in this case, your mom's birthday cake!
Loved this week's string ... and the combination of tangles ... can't wait to see the tile show!
Cheers!

From Felicity Strohfeldt (South Africa) and here on her blog ~
Lovely to get back to tangling, loved the tangles this week by Cyndi, Maria and Suzanne. I am rather rusty, but intend to be participating full out from now on and, also getting the challenges done that I missed.
Tangled Tidbits -
*delightfully detailed Jester - two variations in one
*thick and thin lines for Bales, beautiful shading

And now...

the tile for honors this week...

was sent in by...

Karen Buse from California ~

Karen wrote:
When I drew the string, rather than "hollibaugh-ing" the lefthand "C" behind the central "S", I drew it right on through. And look at that…they made the beginning "><" of Jester. I just carried on from there. Thanks as always for your seemingly endless well of inspiration.

Tangled Tidbits -
What a lovely happenstance!
*fabulous combinations - Bubbles and Bales in Jester
*bits of Bales in Bubbles
*soft shading
*filled in loops of Jester, with just a bit of rounded white space

Congratulations, Karen!
I have a little something coming in the mail for you.

Thank you all for sending in your fabulous tiles and for inspiring us all.

Many thanks to the creators of the tangles we used this week along with my string:
