"It's a String Thing" #256 Tiles

It is a treat to have the results from two IAST challenges posted back-to-back.  There is so much tangled goodness to take in.

IAST #256 featured Mazorito, CZT Ria Matheussen's latest tangle, as well as her Hexa, and Horti - all configured on a circular string - great fun!

My favorite tangle of Ria is Vea. So I added this too and gave the rest a touch of Vea:)

I loved the tangle Mazorito, but had trouble figuring out how to add the other suggested tangles into the mix. I figured you can never go wrong with Mooka (thank goodness there is Mooka!!!) and I added some Horti around it.

Wow, this got really busy looking! I took the prompt and got a little wild. I decided to stretch the simple circular string into a wonky oval and purposefully distorted hexa as my interior tangle with horti as little fillers and mazorito as the border. I have been having fun splashing down some watercolour, although it does make this thin paper cockle, so I can't do it too many pages or else my sketchbook gets fussy to close. I suppose proper tiles would be much nicer this way, but I absolutely love that I have this nice neat little artbook when I am finished.

Adele, it looks like you were off on a great college trip. I remember the first trip with both of our kids as great fun! This challenge using 3 of Rita Matheussen’s tangles was especially interesting to me since I’d never used them. (I love how she is always searching the world for new potential Zentangle patterns!) I used variations of all three of her tangles to create a circle on a square tile. I’ve recently been using some Daniel Smith Watercolor Sticks since I love the “genuine” series with minerals in their tubes. The purplish one is “Moonglow” and the other is “Piedmontite Genuine.” I think I’m not getting as much granulation as I hope for because I’m only applying a wash on the small tile. Graphite was added at the end. FUN!

I always enjoy drawing in the round and decided immediately to join this challenge. When I continued reading, it was a nice surprise to see appearing Mazorito, Hexa and Horti, suggested to fill the circle!
I'm honoured and grateful you chose these tangles and I hope, tanglers who are going to send in an entry will also enjoy these challenge.
My drawing is made on white paper with a black pen and pencil and finished with ordinary colourpencils.

I love Mazorito. Hexa is beautiful too but in my Zendala it came out quite differently and I am not so happy. I wanted to draw another tile but unfortunately have no time to do so. It’s always a challenge to place patterns in a circle.

I enjoyed this particular challenge, working in a circle was something different for me, and I really liked the three patterns. Even so I adapted them to fit my “ artistic vision” because I thought simplifying them made the final product look less cluttered.

I am usually a light shader, so I’ve been stepping out of my box a bit and trying some darker shading (yes, this is dark for me). I have the same issue when doing decorative painting. My painting instructor (and fellow CZT Michele Wimmers) has been working with me. I’m getting better.

Here are my tiles for IAST 256. I'm really pleased with how they turned out. I have a Zentangle blog now. More on this week's tiles here. Both the tiles were lessons in how to redo/fix tiles and I'm happy with the way they turned out.

Here is my contribution for challenge #256. Mazorito is lovely. Hexa is there but just a bit unrecognisable on the outer edge. I’ve never created a circular zentangle before, and enjoyed it very much.

Sounds as if you had a really busy time with lots of family fun. How does Ria get her hexagons so perfect?! Fun tangles which I need to play with. Mine came out a bit uneven so "when in doubt, aura".

I’m always surprised how the patters were flowing: Mazorito is great and full of opportunities while Horti had it’s own will and changed to a flower. Hexa refused to my pen and again I was too short in time to do some colour.

I found a scrap of watercolor paper and decided to make use of it for this challenge. Unfortunately, it got a little busy; also, my pen choice turned out to be poor as they did not want to write over the paint. But, time ran out so I just let it be. Not fond of it, but I am trying to make sure I participate as much as I possibly can :-)

I loved playing with Ria’s beautiful tangles. I started and finished the tile on our way home from France during the 16 hour drive, with our camper (pic enclosed). All of a sudden, the long drive was not so long after all :0)

I loved working with Ria Matheussen's tangles! I've long been a fan of her art and her tangles reflect a certain sophisticated elegance that I adore. I wanted to work on white but used my last black zendala tile instead. Thank you for the awesome challenge!

Pretty Mazorito started me off, filled in with some Hexa variations, lots of stripes that I love, some white space (originally thought it would have some Horti, but then decided to leave it plain) and a tucked in circle...that's it in a nutshell--:)

It's been awhile - my scanner broke down. It was 14 years old, so I suppose it's understandable.
I had fun this week, especially with seeing Hexa as a kind of fence. I don't have any circle tiles, so I just continued Hexa to fill the square instead ^.^

Thank you all for this beautiful display of tiles.  I am certain that Ria will be excited to see how much everyone enjoyed her wonderful tangles.

My heartfelt thanks for the many loving wishes for the family celebrations that we were blessed with in the past few weeks.  We enjoyed each others good company as each event was more joyous than the next.  God is good!
