"It's a String Thing" #194 featuring Trella

A challenge and a new tangle!

It's Tuesday, your good news day.
It's a doubly good news day as we have a new IAST and my latest tangle to play with.
Before the string, I'll post the pattern, a bit about how it was named and developed, and give some examples of what others have created with it.

Please meet Trella ~
The tangle is named for our youngest granddaughter, Ella.  The vine-like nature of Trella reminded me of a trellis and her name fit so well in the little play on words.  And truly, she is "growing like a weed" as the saying goes.

Developing a pattern has become very much a community affair for me.  I first ask my "Knuckleballer" CZT group to explore the basic idea as I did during a recent gathering.
They added weight to the droops (thank you, Sindy P), fancy aura, and created tree-like shapes with it.

Joan Delony, CZT

Tracey Lyon Nicholson, CZT layered Trella without adding aura

Dorian Eng, CZT

Carolyn Russell, CZT added a multi-lined main stem and grounded the tangle.

Last Saturday, I introduced Trella to my advanced class students.  They developed the tangle even more.

Brian Crimmins, CZT featured Trella in one of his signature Dingbatz

Gara Hudson scalloped the droops and outer aura and she also featured Trella as a border.

Juliane Lopez was kind to let me photograph this before she finished it.
She embellished Trella many ways - note the border with weighted droops and aura.

While it contains elements of other beloved patters (Flux comes to mind), Trella seems to hold its own when introduced to tanglers.   See what you think as you play with it this week.

Trella can be used to create its own string (note the three examples above).
Feel free to use the suggested string below, or use Trella to create one.
IAST #194  String by Adele Bruno, CZT

Inspired by Brian's tile (above) Florz and N'Zeppel (both by Maria Thomas) will round out our tangles for the week.

Use as many or as few as you would like or add one or more of your own choosing.  Please be sure to include the names of any patterns that you use so that others can reference them.

Simply pencil the string line onto your tile and tangle away! Keep in mind that string lines are suggestions and let the patterns lead the way.
