Worth Framing

Last weekend, my husband and I celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary at a charming Italian restaurant with most of our immediate family, including all seven of our children.  It was a very special treat for us because while some live near, others live very far away.

Earlier in the week the chef offered to print the menu we selected on the plain white paper he had on hand - "unless I had something else in mind," he said...

I remembered a page from The Book of Zentangle® by Rick Roberts and Maria Thomas, where Maria drew a frame with what looks to be scroll work, but is really their initials.

Maria's artwork inspired me to make a similar border for the menu with my own variation.  This is how it turned out ~

Border for Anniversary Dinner Menu by Adele Bruno, CZT

At first glance it looks like an ornate border, but as you look closer you can read the date, occasion, and our names.

Just think of what you can do with this idea - for weddings, birthdays, mats for photographs.  Not only can you write the date, occasion, etc. - think of poems, quotes, songs...the possibilities are endless!

Once your border is drawn, you can scan the original and use a reduced image for many things - note cards, invitations, place cards, etc.

I love how beautiful details like this set the tone for a gathering or celebration - Zentangle® makes them possible in ways I never could have imagined!
