"It's a String Thing" #236 Tiles

Here's hoping your weekend celebrations were filled with family, fun, and lots of chocolate.

IAST tanglers, celebrating Easter and Passover, sent in sweet wishes from around the globe along with their festive tiles.
Let's take a look ~

(The notes and tiles are presented in the order received, sans the usual "Tangled Tidbits".  This Easter Bunny is going to take a little break and just enjoy the magnificent show.)

The first tile arrived from Sherry Conte (Sanford, Florida) ~
We are having a beautiful winter here. I haven’t been Zentangling for very long and, this was a challenge for me. I can’t wait to see what everyone else does with this!

From Baafke (The Netherlands) ~
Tree new tangles to try out.
I particularly like wavlin.
I wish you good Easter days.

From Nor'dzin (Wales, United Kingdom) ~
Greetings from Wales!
I learn such a lot from seeing everyone’s tiles in response to the challenge. This week I was particularly influenced by Shirley Wohlsen from Australia, and Jem from UK. Thank you so much, and best wishes everyone

From Margarete Gilge (Germany) and here on her blog ~
thank you for your easterly challenge. I enjoyed to draw it on a watercoloured background. The combination of your given patterns was very interesting. Often I am surprised in which direction my tile develops.
I wish you and your family happy Easter!
Best wishes from Germany

From Lynn G (Florida) ~
A very Happy Easter to you and your family.

From Lily (Hungary) ~
Here is my tile for your weekly challenge. Happy Easter to you and your family!
Zenhug

From Aileen (Singapore) and here on her blog ~
Happy Easter!
This week's string was perfect for me to try out Paisley from Sandy Bartholomew's Tangles Cards! A tangle that's been on my "to try" list for ages. Thank you! Rainbows and raindrops in sunny Singapore

From Jutta Gladnigg (NRW, Germany) ~
Dear Adele, a happy Easter to you and your family… and to all IAST participants!
This Easter challenge featured beautiful patterns and a really cool Easter egg string.
I used a marbled tile sent to me by Sarah Fowler, creator of this week’s pattern ‚Safflower‘.
I had kept this for some months, waiting for a special moment. And now I think it is the right time…
Also for enhancing the tile with some watercolour pencils…
May the Easter Bunny give us many colourful (chocolate) eggs on Sunday!

From Ria Mathuessen, CZT (Belgium) ~
Thank you for another lovely challenge.
In Belgium, everyone has a few days off to celebrate Eastern into the family.
I'm fond of chocolate eggs but I enjoyed drawing this eggs also.
Wish you a happy Eastern and a wonderful Springtime,
Warm regards from Belgium

From Susan (United Kingdom) ~
Hope everyone had a good Easter.

From Priscilla, CZT 28 (Kingston, New York) ~
Wasn't able to do last week as I was away..But I got caught up this week
The wavlin and safflower were a stretch for me...but I loved zenith..and since I had some smudges I had to add a bit of jetties and orbs to cover
Have a wonderful Easter and God bless for all you do..

From Shirley Wohlsen (Queensland, Australia) ~
Best Wishes for a wonderful Easter to everyone.
Attached is my Tile for ‘ It’s A String Thing # 236’ challenge
Again I enjoyed the Tangles you chose, Adele, Thank you.

From VenaC (Whitby, Ontario, Canada) ~
Must be feeling blue! There are a few rays of sunshine which bug me because two of them lost the curve. Originally I thought of using turquoise and pink (Easter colours?), but this is how it ended up. Happy Easter, Adele.

From Marjan Heemskerk (The Netherlands) ~
Vrolijk Pasen ( = Happy Easter)!

From Laurel Davis, CZT (New York) ~
I must say this challenge had me stymied until I rewatched Melinda Barlow’s and Molly’s wonderful videos on drawing Zenith. Extending Zenith out on both sides and even using different patterns was a revelation! Thank you for a fun challenge and Happy Easter.

From Sharyn Penna,CZT (Massachusetts) ~
Your Wednesday Words of Wisdom post is just beautiful!
Cheers to decorated eggs ... a rite of spring!
Happy Easter and Happy Passover to all.

From Lin H, CZT (Florida) ~
Happy Easter to you, Adele, and thanks for your challenge. Safflower and Wavlin were two new tangle patterns for me and I really like both of them. I used some watercolored paper that I thought went with the holiday and your string. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone’s results.

From Jane (Dorking, United Kingdom) ~
Hope you are well and Happy Easter to you! Attached is my entry for this week.
I love zenith as a tangle. Wavlin was fun and I'll use that one again. Safflower adds a whimsical touch. I loved using the colours, although I had intended to stick to black and white originally, funny how things go!

From Pat (Washington State) ~
May you have a blessed Easter!

A very warm welcome to Shelly St. John (Redwood City, California) and Jennifer St. John (San Mateo, California) ~
My sister Jennifer and I have just recently started to tangle. We’re looking forward to using the weekly strings as a way to learn new tangle patterns. We both recently retired and tangling together has lots of fun.

Congratulations on your retirements, finding zentangle and finding IAST!  Welcome to this wonderful community of tanglers and welcome to our Tangled Map ~

From Sue Agnew (Tucson, Arizona) ~
I was in my happy place today drawing parallel lines (or I should probably say "parallel" because they aren't exactly ...) with Wavlin. For Safflower, I'm not really sure why a tangle can't be representational ... even some of the originals, like Bronx Cheer and Verdigogh, are representational ... mine looks like a flower trying to look like an egg, I think. Easter seemed like the perfect time to use that new flicking technique with colored pen. On the third egg I just put stripes in a pared-down version of Zenith.
I hope you have a blessed Easter.

From Jane (Boulder, Colorado) ~
Wishes for a joyous Easter! I am making chicken soup as we speak (type) for our Passover dinner tomorrow.
Well...once I got started with the lines for this one, I just couldn't stop! :)
Absolutely love Wavlin...learned it a few weeks ago, but hadn't remembered to do it again!
Almost thought this was going to be a monotangle...I just kept Wavlin all over the place, but at the end, I added a fragment of Zenith in the corners...the blank space within the petals looked so out of place with all the lines of Wavlin, I had to add lines to all of the sections my Zenith too! Really like the Safflower pattern, but I just couldn't find a place for it here. Love where stuff seems to overlap and all of the black inkiness...even used my micron 08--:) As always, I'm looking forward to seeing what others did with this string and these patterns!

From Cyndee Pelley (Oklahoma) and here on her blog ~
I've been happily doing the IAST challenges for weeks and then forgetting. So this week I took extra time to make sure I sent you my tile! I've enjoyed the holiday themed strings and this was perfect for Easter! New tangles for me were Sarah Fowler's pretty new Tangle, as well as Wavelin which is also new to me. I enjoyed them both. I used pastels for a touch of color on a black apprentice tiles.
Thanks for another great challenge!

From Sharon Fite (California) ~
Very enjoyable challenge! I really like the tangles you chose. Wavlin and Safflower were new to me, and Zenith grew to bigger-than-usual proportions. (Do you see angels at the top and bottom of the main form? Me, too, although they were unintentional.) I used watercolor paper and painted the eggs first with my Koi kit. Lots of fun!

From Rebecca I (Stamford, Connecticut) ~
I’ve been away from tangling for a while but happy to be back and doing your latest challenge!

From Shiryl White (Texas) ~
This one was tougher, but I spent my day off working on it.

From Di (Western Australia) ~
Attached is my version of IAST #236.
I had a lot of fun with this tangle! At first I couldn't figure out how I would use the given tangles but once I started drawing, it just created itself. I experimented with transparency, crossing borders, black/white balance, and shading. Tom called the drawing Eggstasy, so I added some soft radiance to it.

Thank you all for your sweet Easter wishes.  All the best to you and your families, too!

Many thanks to the creators of the tangles we used this week along with my string ~

Zenith by Maria Thomas

Wavlin by Cyndi Knapp

Safflower by Sarah Fowler
(Wasn't that fun to see Jutta's gorgeous tangles on a tile sent to her by Sarah herself?)

Check back Tuesday afternoon for "It's a String Thing" #237!

  3. I really look forward to seeing everyone's tiles each week. Each one is a WoW and some of them are "How did you think of that?" My own creative brain is expanding just by looking. Thank you everyone and especially thank you Adele for posting each and every tile. Happy not to read any tidbits so Easter Bunny can take a break :).
